Amazing facts about octopuses to learn and share

There is no arguing the fact that octopuses are easily the most alien-looking species on the earth. Let’s have a look at some of the amazing facts of these creatures.

  • Octopuses have arms, and not tentacles unlike what most of you think.
  • The maximum lifespan of an octopus is maximum of five years.
  • The eyesight of octopuses is brilliant. However, they are colour blind!
  • These creatures have three hearts and they bleed blue. Yes! Their blood is blue in colour.
  • Octopuses can re-grow their arms if they lose one.
  • Small octopuses are in fact kept as pets but most of the times they escape due to their excellent problem-solving capacity. Perhaps they are the most intelligent invertebrates on the planet.
  • Did you know that octopuses can change their colour similar to the chameleon but much better than the latter.
  • The venom of the blue-ringed octopus is known to kill humans.
  • Shortly after mating is done, the male octopus dies (within a few weeks). The females live for three months or so until the eggs hatch. During these months, the females don’t eat anything and starve to death!
